Michael Howley was born in Burnley, Lancashire in 1964. He became a professional Artist in 1987 having trained at Lincolnshire College of Art. Since then, he has developed a unique, realistic style of pastel painting that he says reflects his love and fascination for “those atmospheric moments in landscape that pass so quickly yet leave a lasting impression. Whether painting the rising mists of dawn, the golden glow of sunset, or the fleeting drama of a snowstorm, my aim is to capture a sense of the atmosphere at the time.”.s

Howley has exhibited across the North of England and taught art at Nelson and Colne College and St Mary’s College in Blackburn; he has been a resident Artist at galleries in Skipton and Clitheroe as well as running a number of artist workshops. He has also published online tutorials for the Liverpool-based website: Arttutor.com

Currently, Howley runs the art studio “s o u l s p a c e” with multiple fellow artists in Sough which welcomes artists, visitors and hobbyists alike of all skill levels for afternoon and evening workshops on Thursdays throughout the year.
